Polish influence

While doing a few errands on the AIB website this evening I was interested to see that the website was available in Polish as well as English. I don’t think Irish ever made it into AIB’s thought process for a web service, just goes to show that Irelands Official Language has slipped into third place as regards usage.

Meanwhile in scandalous Scandinavia the dirty ministers are resigning like lemmings are hopping. Two ministers whose private economy did not fit the moral bill have quit, it has gotten to ridiculous proportions now as the tabloids are digging up anyone they can find who will talk shite about the new gang. The new budget did leave a few gobs shut and more on the floor, as predicted tax cuts and reduced unemployment benefits, with higher unemployment insurance premiums, even Charlie MacCreevy would have been embarrassed to put out a budget like this. So far it looks like I’m coming out at about the same or maybe a few Crowns to the good so I won’t say too much…..yet.

Dobranoc, Powodzenia, or Good night and Good luck as they say in Dublin.

Blue Meanies

The new government in Sweden has lived up to expectations, right wing and scandalous. One minister has already resigned after her tricky financial deals came out in the press, another one has not paid her TV licence in 16 years (and is Culture Minister directly responsible for Swedish public TV and Radiowho are the benefactors of TV licence payments) and has had a few tax dodges also which came out as soon as the new government was announced.

So the stereotype of rich tax dodgers has lived up, one rule for the proles and another for the upper classes.

150,000 voters changed from red to blue in the election, I guess they are looking for their vote back.

Budget today, let me guess…..Tax cuts for the rich??

Spam Catcher

I have just activated my Askimet plugin so all the Viagra selling MILF hunting sexy lingerie wearing poker playing loan sharks can go and shite.:-)

I still have images of John Cleese and Michael Palin with a big butterfly net chasing a large tin of the meat product which has the same name, must be a generation thing. It was on the telly TV television before video and DVD and internet yes there was a time before the internet, hard to believe but true. There was also a time before mobile phones also hard to believe, I celebrated the 10th anniversary of owning a mobile phone by buying a new one yesterday and it was a Sony Ericsson K610i

Before mobile phones I used to arrange to meet people in the pub at a prearranged time, being stood up by a mate at the Slug and Lettuce in London 11 years ago was the turning point, if I had had a mobile I would not have ended up going on the piss with Dave from London Transport at the Springbok bar a South African joint strangely enough and wandering the streets of London. Now I am among the ranks of the “Where are you” generation in more ways than one, I ask that question on the phone and I ask myself occasionally also.
Sorry Nokia I know I have been a Nokia fan for about 9 of the last 10 years with a brief flirt with Panasonic, but the phone people were giving these Sony ones away! What can I say fickle phone user. The last Nokia was a phone with sms capability and it played the theme tune to Red Dwarf, and that was about it, what more could you ask for? I would have kept it except that the keyboard no longer worked as it should, ability to type zero being a help. The new phone is in colour yipee! and it has a camera and the internet, it also has a phone function hidden among the mms and e-mail buttons, it makes sounds periodically I’m not up to speed yet and maybe I will need to take speed to ever learn all the functions. If you see no posts here for a while blame the phone!

Time for playing with new toy! more soon.Tim.

Home to Blue Sweden

Since I’ve been away on my ship the government has changed from a Red/Green coalition to a Blue Alliance….      I feel a Who lyric coming along….

There’s nothing in the streets Looks any different to me,
And the slogans are replaced, by-the-bye
And the parting on the left Are now parting on the right
And the beards have all grown longer overnight

I’ll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around
Pick up my guitar and play Just like yesterday
Then I’ll get on my knees and pray
We don’t get fooled again
Don’t get fooled again No, no!

Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

Meet the new boss

Same as the old boss

Kiel, Bremen, Göteborg and home

He did not disappear he is alive and well and playing in Germany in a time warp called the 80’s, there was a poster for Lionel Richie also……hello is it me your looking for…..

Yours truly holding the leg of the donkey in the famous story.

Kiel Canal, Brunsbuttel locks by night.

Zeppelin having had less success with floating airships turned their attention to more down to earth or earth moving things.

I managed to get ashore in Bremen for a few hours a rarity in this day and age. It was curiously quiet in fact for a Tuesday afternoon it was totally dead, on enquiring it turns out to be the anniversary of German reunification when East and West joined up again. So everything was shut. Celebrations? Some of the crew who had been ashore the previous night were surprised at the pace of drinking that was going on for a Monday night, maybe that explains the ghost town a collective hangover that has been going on for 16 years.

In a previous post I mentioned a ship called Blucher that was sunk by the Norweigians in WW2. It was named after Von Blucher who was a general who joined with the Duke of Boots at Waterloo, he was a Prussian and Prussia was a driving force in the first German Unification, some kind of weird set of Teutonic coincidences going on here.

Anyhow, time for my leave, more news soon.Tim.
