Eolas

Cúpla bliain o shin, is dóigh liom go raibh se deich bliain o shin. Bhí mé i gconaí i Loch Garman, ní raibh aon fadhb agam ag labhair an teanga Gaeilge. Anois tá mé i mo chónaí i An tSualauin agus tá mórdeachair agam ag déan iarracht ag labhair Gaeilge. Níl aon fabdhb agam ag labhair Sualaimach!
Foghlaimeoidh mé mo teanga arís. Is dócha liom.

Ach, an bhfuil tú ‘ag blagaíocht’ anois nó ag déanamh rud eile? ;)

  2. 2 Tim NORWAY

    Fáilte!
Ceapam go bhfuil mé ag blagaíocht anois. Cad é do barúil le focal blagaíocht?
Caillfidh mé mo chuid Gaeilge gan cleactadh.

Tá me go h-an ashamed that I can’t even write the most simplí of sentences as Gaeilge.

    Fáilte Kav as Alban!

I wouldn’t lose any sleep over it, in fact I did lose sleep trying to write the first sentences in Irish since the leaving Cert. which was 1987….it took me feckin’ ages…I am amazed how much came flooding back, at the same time I am also sorry to have lost so much.

It’s odd though, I can understand almost all of what you and Eolaí wrote, but I just couldn’t put it together. My Irish teacher always told me my problem was that I thought in English and tried to literally translate things, which is not how Irish should be approached.

    Blag, indeed.

Ã?osa Chrióst! ..and that’s about the size of it.I know a Chinese-American who is fecking fluent and works for the *ahem* Christians In Action.Talk about shaming the life out of you.
Oddly enough I was working on stringing together the cupla focail for a riposte to the unmerciful slagging this gets me.

My old Irish teacher would be delighted with himself if he knew I was attempting to revive my mediocre standard back to usage. He is a Kerryman, we use to call him the Jap of Dunloe, or the Jap for short, this was before I ever knew about Jap’s eyes of course. His constant phrase to me was “Déan an pas chúrsa!” so much was his confidence in my ability. The subject matter was shite though, “Peig” and “Tóraíocht Dirmaid agus Gráinne” I ask you.
We should have had ” an béal bocht” or anything by Myles na gCapaleen.
Kav, I see that the language in Scotland is enjoying new popularity, it’s the feckin same as Irish, just speak the cúpla focail with a Glaswegian accent and your the dogs bollox.
Dev, a River Pilot in London once turned to me and went from serious home county English to “Ba mhaith liom bainne i mo cupán tae!” I nearly fell over.
Why would you get slagged off? But sure give us the shpeel you have prepared anyway!

Is mor an trua nach bhfuil nios mo Ollanach agam na Gaeilge :-(

  9. 9 Tim NORWAY

Conas a tá tú a Chonor? Deirtear go bhfuil sé an deachair ar fad, an tOllanach! Ní raibh an tSualaimach go han crua. Labhríonn gach duine Béarla i an tSualauin ar aon nós, agus an rud céanna i an tOlainn.

Beidh mé ag déanamh an Ã?rdteist sa mí Meitheamh seo chugainn agus táim ag stáidéir ‘Peig’ freisin.

My teacher said it was her 30th time reading the book with a class

  11. 11 Tim NORWAY

30 years, it must be some kind of record in endurance or else a type of compulsion disorder, when I did the leaving in 1987 she had already done Peig 10 times (assuming she had one class per year)……hard to believe.

Go n-éirí leat i na hrdteist.
