Vehicle carrier “Courage”
Registered in Wilmington Delaware USA
The American flagged Vehicle Carrier Courage of American Roll-On Roll-Off Carrier (ARC) seen yesterday leaving Southampton on a voyage to destination undisclosed, she was heading west in the English channel on the AIS at her last contact. A fairly rare occurrence to see the Stars & stripes flying on the mast these days in this neck of the woods, I even thought it was a Liberian until it passed a bit closer. The ship was once a Wallenius called “Aida” and the name has only been painted over. According to local information sources vehicles carried are often military vehicles and that is why it’s American. The website looks however normal enough http://www.arrcnet.com/.

Actually I suspect that Southampton is a regular call for US Flag car carriers. It was when I was sailing on one back in 1992.
Hi Fred, maybe you are right. I haven’t seen too many, these last couple of years. You don’t see too many “ordinary” flags at all these days, lots of Marshall Islands, Jamaican, Liberian, Barbados, Belieze and the likes in fact I think I’ll have to do a post on that.
Thanks for commenting.
Thanks, Tim. I’ve got a MINI bound for Charleston, South Carolina, USA on this ship. Apparently, it is a routine carrier of MINIs under a WWL contract.
COURAGE’s callsign is WDC6907.
According to SailWx.com, it was at 40N 42W on 12FEB1200Z. WWL shows it as headed for Baltimore, Maryland docking on the 17th. Charleston on the 20th and 21st. This last date is when my MINI will be off-loaded at Union Pier.
Thanks for the pix.
Rick
