The sea is big

storm

The sea is big and we are small, we got a fair beating in the North Sea the other day, the wind was cold and from the North and it whipped up the sea, and because we were heading west we got it on the beam. So there were a few green faces among the crew, the picture above shows the big sea and the small ship is what we are on. The decks were covered with seas and the howling wind was whistling through the ventilation system enough to make you wonder what the hell you are doing at sea and not at home eating chocolate Easter eggs.

But now it’s Sunday, and we are in the Irish Sea, the wind has died down and we’ll survive to fight another day.

Nice shot and awful weather Tim! I bet you stowed all your stuff on the best place – the cabin’s floor…

  2. Tim UNITED KINGDOM says:

There were a few items that ended up on the deck, half a cup of coffee left a strange pattern on the chair in my office, and the smell of stale coffee remains. The internet stopped working and the satellite TV got sick, but we survived!

Want to swap jobs? I’d be there in a heartbeat.

  4. Tim UNITED KINGDOM says:

Hi Dev, I wouldn’t leave this job now, can’t afford to and probably can’t be retrained if I could afford to, it’s fairly comfortable now this evening anchored a few miles off Penzance, Cornwall waiting for further orders!

    Hi Tim,

I just like to leave some “compliments”. Your little stories and pictures, about your voyages, are always a pleasure. They help to remind me why I chose this job. I will finish navigational school next year, the first stripe is waiting :-)

All the best for you and a safe voyage.

  6. Tim UNITED KINGDOM says:

Thanks for the compliment Tamara, and I’m glad you like the stories. This life has it’s ups and downs, and sides to sides as well as the story shows. I wish you a successful conclusion to your studies, and best of luck on the waves.
    Tchuss.

  7. Nice pic, Tim.

I never knew sailors got seasick.

  8. Tim UNITED KINGDOM says:

Oh they do Bock, I once sailed on the Asgard and I puked for Ireland. The smell of sweat, diesel and boiled cabbage combined with cigarette smoke and a rolling sea will bring up the cornflakes in no time.
These days I don’t get sick only tired from the rolling, the young lads do be a bit green around the gills but.
    Good luck.
