Normal Service

Normal service has been interrupted by a heavy dose of studying for my Norwegian endorsement, I will be working on Norwegian ships for the next couple of years all going well (agw as they say in ship speak). Now the studying is over, applications are sent and I possess a piece of paper that allows me to sail as skipper in Norway or at least NIS. Probably not the first Wexford man to sail on Norwegian ships and there will be more about all this in the next few posts.
Cheers Tim.

Remember 17th May, Norway’s National Day.

Sea Fever

I noticed that my Technorati was showing an incoming link to Sea Fever, so curiosity got the better of me and I went for a visit. I was delighted to find another maritime blog and you would do no harm clicking in to seafever.org if you are into maritime heritage, and the like. Sailing ships seem to figure probably because the author was in the American Sail Training Association a recent post was very interesting about Alan Villiers check it out Sea Fever

Deep Sea

Will be joining in Cape Town tomorrow so I will probably be off the air for a two week or so, the satellite only covers the Northern hemisphere for internet anyway, so I’ll have to wait until I am theĀ  northern side of the equator before I can start posting again.

Neptunes grace and all, I do have my crossing the line cert but it was a while ago now….

Further tag woe

Loading again at Immingham, heading for Antwerp after that. Immingham is known as Ming Ming in the locality and by sailors too, there is a great pub here called the Lock Inn, a shrine to formica counter tops and is great for chips and gravy, if you dig that kind of thing. If you want to get your head kicked in it is also the place for that kind of thing. It was modern in the 60’s the pub I mean and not getting heads kicked in, don’t really know when thatĀ  got popular.

My tag problems of the other day have turned into a monstrous job, bad enough I thought but I have since discovered that some of the tags crossed over, but landed on the wrong posts! Aaaargggh! So folks searching through the blog by category won’t be having fun trying to make sense of the tags, I fixed about 25%of the problem yesterday, hopefully it will be fully sorted by the end of the week. Then I can start blogging normalization and begin to comment on other blogs again.

Homeward bound……..

4 weeks have passed and its time to go home again, I got the word this morning that I would be leaving from London, of course we have not actually tied up yet we are still at anchor. All things going to plan the Sunk pilot will board this afternoon and we will proceed up the London River.

This blog lark is a great way to massage the ego and by jaysus there are many egos out there, I am merely a minnow in the stream of blogging that is going on out there. If you put the word blog into Google you get 2,710,000,000 hits three times as many as the word sex which has 898,000,000. Blogging is 3 times more popular than sex, thats a fact in internet land anyway.

I hope to see some of you soon and the rest as soon as I can. The reports will be less in the forthcoming 4 week but I will throw in a few. All the best for now and thanks for reading.

Cheers Tim

First blog on the new address

Hello blogfans, and welcome to the new home of Tims Times.

We have a trainee onboard who knows more about computers than I do and I’m learning more from him than than the otherway around, so I have started a new blog. I have also fulfilled my duties as Chief Mate and sent him out with a paint brush and buckets of grease,we all have to learn to get well and truly shi’ted up to the eyebrows in our path for knowledge.

The old blog will be moving here also when I learn how……don’t hold your breath but it will get here.

Now in the forthcoming editions, there will be plenty vitriol and more of the same a few photographs and general comments on the state of things, probably not enough solutions forthcoming but food for thought and references to obscure music books, authors and the likes. All comments are welcome. All the best Tim.
