Swedish mega group and a brand of Seafood in Sweden.

Sill, a type of pickled herring very popular in Sweden at midsummer, Christmas, Easter, and any other big occasion. This variation is dill flavoured.

Abba the band, it is said that BAAB, BABA, ABAB, AABB and BBAA were thought of as names of the group before ABBA.
However the seafood is probably more well known these days in Sweden. Abba is the Aramaic word for “father”, also……..
After much procrastination I have finally decided to return to Ireland to complete my Captains exam. I took the first part in 1999 so it is high time I got it done, 8 years between well a lot of stuff has happened.
I haven’t been in Ireland for nearly 2 years also so it will be a bit of a shock to the system, a lot of stuff will be familiar but somehow new, the taste of a pint of Stout in a pub, Dennys rashers and sausages, proper Barrys tea, Northern Ireland in the news, AA roadwatch, 2FM, the last word, Tom Dunne on Today FM, reading a copy of the paper version of the Irish Times, Examiner, Independant. Talking about the weather and beating Kilkenny in hurling, seeing rugby on the telly. The sound of the word “Echo, Echo” on Patricks street in the evening, driving on the left hand side of the road. Having euros in my wallet, speaking English with people who speak English, understanding road signs and ads, being able to take the piss and be sarcastic without being taken seriously. Wexford accents, Cork accents, Dublin accents, gaeilge, an mhaca tu mo seamasin? Cute hoors and auld codgers, hearing the phrases “feck this for a game of soldiers”,” I’m not coddin”,” are ya wantin salt and vinegar hon?”
There are things I’m not looking forward too also, studying for the exam and all that stress, but I’m going to get it done for once and for all. I am stressed already……3 weeks to go!
I had to give up thinking about the name of a band today and resort to Google, eventually I found it on a link from Wikipedia after searching for Welsh bands, anyway I couldn’t remember the name of Catatonia, I was trying to explain to the cadet about bands from Wales, we happen to be in Cardiff, I thought he would know a few, but he had never heard of Manic Street Preachers or Super Furry Animals or Stereophonics, I couldn’t believe it, he knew who Tom Jones was after I was forced to break out in song and give a few bars of “it’s not unusual” poor bastard got terribly red in the face much to the amusement of the AB who was doubled up with laughter. We decided that he would have to be educated so I have the task of making a compilation of Welsh, Irish and other parts of Western Europe that have contributed remotely to the world of music, contemporary or otherwise.
“If you tolerate this, then your children will be next” Manic Street Preachers
I couldn’t be too hard on him after all he is an engineer cadet doing deck practice and it is his first trip, and he is only 17, but he does ask questions nonstop I realise now that after years of believing fervently that I knew it all I do not have the answer to everything, this guy had Job pulling his hair out.
later folks.
